    Artist Statement

"I simply put my subconscious to work. I try to stay as real and open minded as possible to new ideas by using surprising materials and color combinations, to allow my art and myself to evolve."

    Quotes

"Swedish born artist Helena Gullstrom is making her way into the Los Angeles art scene with a distinct unique voice. Her oil paintings of a vulnerable, naked women sitting on the floor looking right at you, cuts right through the surface of “LA coolness".

There is something very real in their faces and postures that moves me. I always discover new details and there is a timeless aspect to them. Her sculpture TROPHY WIFE is inventive, thought provocative and has the mark of a great artist -creative, unique and strong.

Who would think of a woman with elk horns on her back mounted on a plate on the wall?

I am convinced that her upbringing in a small rural town in Sweden has given her a depth and perspective that combined with her highly creative mind is going to take her on a journey to become one of the new strong voices in art of today."

    - Mikael Forsberg , film director and contemporary art collector

"The generous physical layering of paint and combined materials in Helena Gullstroms art creates a dreamlike imaginary world. The essence is both romantic and soulful. The work has the flavor of magic and miracles."
